
For some, Greengrass’ arrival wasn’t quite what they’d gotten used to with The Bourne Identity. The Bourne Identity made such a huge impact that Universal had no qualms about setting up the sequel, The Bourne Supremacy, and brought Greengrass, who had previously found considerable acclaim with the low budget historical drama, Bloody Sunday, on board. Bourne’s mysterious past intrigued audiences and gave director Doug Liman the biggest hit of his career up to that point.

The first adaptation arrived in 2002, and though Greengrass wasn’t involved, the film found instant success.

Based on the best-selling Robert Ludlum novels, the name Jason Bourne has become synonymous with the spy-thriller genre over the years, thanks in no small part to Greengrass and actor Matt Damon. Paul Greengrass, who has directed three of the five films in the Bourne series, has stated that he might be finished with the franchise.
